Family Law

PEOPLE

Ryan Stewart elected to join the firm as head of our family law department in 2016. He previously worked from 2010 to 2015 at a large corporate firm based in Harare during which time he also completed his Masters degree. Ryan specialises in Private/Family law with his masters dissertation having focused on the changing field of post - divorce spousal support.

MINING LAW

PEOPLE

In recent years Shaun Lightfoot has been involved in the Zimbabwean Mining Industry, exporting lumpy and concentrated chromium to China, and has interests in gold, tantalite, manganese, tin and titanium, and has put together several Mining related investments in the past two years.

Shaun, along with Mark Warhurst, is currently involved in spearheading the firm’s specialist Mining portfolio along with his support staff who are well versed in all aspects of Mining, including but not limited to claims portfolio risk assesment and management; environmental issues pertaining to the Mining Industry; due diligences on claims; dispute advice on claims; deal structuring; pegging and prospecting advice and services.

LABOUR LAW

Our Labour law Department is headed by Obey Matizanadzo who has over twenty years of expertise.

SERVICES

Our expertise covers both litigious and non litigious matters including but not limited to:

Conveyancing

People

The firm  has a strong conveyancing department which attends to registration of transfer of residential, commercial and industrial real estate, negotiation and drafting of real estate agreements, subdivision and consolidation of land, preparation and registration of mortgage, surety and notarial bonds, lease agreements, and advisory services on structuring of transactions and taxation.

The department is overseen by all three partners who have been involved in the structuring of a number of housing projects which involve the registration of a notarial deed, deductions and formal subdivision of property, structured either through a sectional title or share block arrangement.

The department is headed by Obey Matizanadzo, who has a wealth of experience in dealing with wide ranging criminal matters.

The firm provides representation and advice in criminal matters, especially those involving corporate and cyber crimes; road traffic and other forms of accidents, alleged violations of labour laws, land acquisition laws and other violations of statutory and the common law.

Arbitration

ABOUT

David Alan Whatman is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK), and has previous experience as a Magistrate, a Partner of a law firm, a Judicial manager, a Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer in various companies both listed and unlisted, and as a Management Consultant, and Chairman on the board of Ecobank Zimbabwe. 

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK), Chairman of Ecobank Zimbabwe Holdings and Ecobank Zimbabwe Limited, Chairman of St Johns Educational Trust, a board member of the Association of Trust Schools of Zimbabwe, a board member of Duly Holdings Limited, a former board member of the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority and chairs a number of commercial company boards.

Dave's broad experience from both sides of the table gives him unique insight into both the realities and legalities of the business world, and he brings this expertise to bear in deciding and arbitrating complex out of court mediation and arbitration proceedings.
